An exciting opportunity has arisen with our client, a local government authority in Scotland. The organisation is currently recruiting for an additional Lawyer to join its In-House Legal Team on a temporary basis of 6 – 8 months, with the possibility of extension.

The role involves providing legal guidance and support across various statutory responsibilities, including education, social services, and housing. Scottish-qualified lawyers with expertise in these areas are encouraged to apply, however, experience in all areas mentioned is not required. Key tasks will include:

  • Support in delivering training sessions or briefings to client departments, Council officials, and occasionally to Members regarding new and expected legislation or relevant guidelines.
  • Offer legal guidance and support across all levels of the Council, assisting its officials, and occasionally its members, on matters pertaining to local authority responsibilities.
  • Manage court proceedings, including but not limited to Permanence Applications, Guardianships, Education Tribunals, Evictions, Anti-Social Behaviour Orders, and Statutory Appeals, with responsibility for negotiating and resolving cases.
  • Provide legal representation and counsel to the Council concerning all legal aspects related to looked after and accommodated children, as well as child protection.
  • Offer legal representation and counsel to the Council regarding all aspects of Social Work law concerning community care and vulnerable adults.

This is a great opportunity for those considering a move to in-house roles, with the flexibility of a temporary position. The team primarily works remotely with occasional meetings in Edinburgh.

If this position could be of interest to you, please do not hesitate to contact either Cameron or Teddie for an initial and confidential discussion. (Assignment 16157)
