A leading UK law firm is seeking an experienced Associate or Senior Associate to join its specialist Shipping and Transport disputes team, based primarily in Edinburgh.

The role focuses on advising insurers and commercial clients across the marine, energy, and transport sectors on a wide range of contentious matters, with scope to develop non-contentious expertise over time. The successful candidate will work on complex, high-value cases, often with an international dimension, within a collaborative and highly regarded team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing marine, offshore and onshore disputes, including incident investigations and claims defence
  • Handling a personal caseload of litigated personal injury and commercial claims
  • Advising clients on regulatory, health and safety, and marine compliance matters
  • Advocacy in the Sheriff Court and other appropriate forums
  • Liaising with insurers, insureds, regulators, and statutory bodies
  • Supporting transactional work in the shipping and transport sector, including chartering and vessel transactions
  • Assisting with alternative dispute resolution processes such as arbitration and mediation
  • Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
  • Contributing to business development and building strong client relationships
  • Participating in incident response work, including on-site client support where required

This opportunity will suit a commercially minded lawyer with a minimum of 6 years’ PQE, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is keen to build a specialist practice within the shipping and transport sector.
