Criminal Lawyer – Ayrshire

Practice Area: Court, Civil Litigation, Criminal
Level: - NQ 2026, NQ, Assistant, Associate, Full Time
Section: Law Firm, 2 YEAR, 1 YEAR, NQ
Location: Scotland, Ayrshire
Ref: FW9912

Our client, an Ayrshire based law firm, is currently recruiting for a Criminal Solicitor to join its busy office. This is a unique opportunity to take a lead role in developing and shaping the firm’s criminal law offering, with an existing caseload and strong local client base already in place.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing a caseload of criminal defence matters, including summary and solemn work
  • Representing clients in Sheriff Court and liaising with Legal Aid bodies
  • Advising clients on criminal procedure, evidence and case strategy
  • Developing and growing the firm’s criminal practice
  • Working independently while collaborating with wider firm colleagues

Applicants should be newly qualified or above, ideally with a solid grounding in criminal law. Newly qualified candidates should have completed a traineeship focused on criminal work, while more experienced solicitors should be confident managing cases independently. Candidates with a mix of criminal and civil litigation experience will also be considered.

This role would suit a motivated solicitor looking for autonomy, responsibility, and the opportunity to build a practice within a supportive firm. A connection to the local area or willingness to be based in Kilmarnock would be advantageous.

If this role sounds of interest, please contact Steph or Teddie for a confidential discussion.
