An established Scottish law firm is seeking a Planning Solicitor to join its growing team, working across both Edinburgh and Glasgow offices. The team’s work spans housing, infrastructure, transport, and retail developments, often involving complex and novel planning issues. This position therefore requires strong analytical skills, creative thinking, and the ability to provide clear, confident advice.

The successful candidate will support senior colleagues on a diverse range of planning and environmental matters, including significant renewable energy projects. The role offers substantial client interaction with major industry stakeholders, as well as opportunities to attend site visits, conferences, and sector events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning team on a varied caseload, including onshore wind appeals and major energy applications.
  • Advise on planning and environmental matters across sectors such as housing, infrastructure, transport, and retail.
  • Conduct research and analysis on complex or uncommon planning issues.
  • Engage directly with clients, attending meetings, site visits, and industry events.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including networking, client pitches, tenders, and seminars.
  • Prepare clear, well‑reasoned advice and maintain strong client relationships.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year’s PQE, prior experience in planning law—whether in energy, infrastructure, or other sectors—and a commitment to delivering excellent client service. Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach are essential.
