We are currently recruiting a Lawyer for an exciting in-house opportunity with our client, MDDUS, a Glasgow-based mutual organisation supporting healthcare professionals across the UK. This role sits within a specialist team handling high-value, complex negligence claims in both the Sheriff Court and the Court of Session as well as regulatory and inquiry work.

The position is full-time and permanent, with hybrid working available. While full-time hours are preferred, the team is also open to candidates seeking part-time hours on a four-day week basis.

The role will focus primarily on clinical negligence litigation and regulatory proceedings. Key responsibilities include advising on civil claims, responding to fitness to practise investigations by regulatory bodies, preparing for tribunals and inquiries, and providing general legal advice. The successful candidate will manage their own caseload, contribute to internal legal training initiatives, and collaborate closely with colleagues across medical, dental and legal teams.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with from around three years’ PQE with experience in medical negligence, together with a strong working knowledge of Sheriff Court and Court of Session procedure. Ideally, candidates will have experience with one or more clinical healthcare regulators or other professional regulators.

Experience in catastrophic injury claims would also be considered relevant , and  the client is also open to considering personal injury lawyers with an interest in developing their career in medical negligence. Excellent stakeholder management skills, organisational skills, professional discretion and a collaborative approach are essential.
