We are pleased to highlight the FWA Spotlight Feature of Iqra Qadir.
Iqra, a Newly Qualified Solicitor, completed her traineeship with MOV8 Real Estate, Estate Agents and Solicitors in October 2025. She was delighted to accept an NQ position at Thorntons Law LLP, where she specialises in Residential Conveyancing.
Did you enjoy your traineeship?
โYes, I did enjoy my traineeship. It was a traineeship focused solely on conveyancing, which I found particularly rewarding. The role was very client-facing, allowing me to build strong communication skills and develop confidence when dealing directly with clients. I also appreciated that every day was differentโeach transaction brought new challenges and learning opportunities, which kept the work engaging and helped me grow both professionally and personally. Calling clients to advise them that they could pick up the keys for their new property is such a nice feeling.โ
What was the most important part of your traineeship?
โThe most challenging part of my traineeship was examining title deeds, particularly at the beginning. I found first registration cases especially complex, as they required a detailed review of historical documents and a strong understanding of title. However, as I handled more cases, I gradually built confidence in my ability to review and interpret these deeds effectively, and what initially felt challenging became much more manageable over time.โ
Why did you choose this specialism?
โI chose this specialism somewhat unexpectedly. At university, I didnโt particularly enjoy conveyancing as a subject. However, while working at my firm as a legal support assistant to gain experience in the legal industry, I was able to see first-hand what the role actually involved in practice. That experience gave me a completely different perspective, and I found that I really enjoyed the work. Seeing the practical, client focused side of conveyancing and being involved in real transactions made me realise it was a specialism I wanted to pursue.โ
How did you find the NQ job search process?
โI found the NQ job search process quite daunting at first. I was nervous, particularly as some people already had positions lined up, and I wasnโt entirely sure at what point I should start applying to firms. However, working with Frasia Wright Associates made the process much more seamless. They provided invaluable support, from helping me prepare for interviews to offering practical tips and guidance throughout. Iโm really grateful for their help and canโt thank them enoughโI would highly recommend them to anyone going through the process.โ
One interview tip for aspiring NQs?
โOne interview tip I would give to Newly Qualified Solicitors is to be genuinely confident in your own experience. It can be easy to compare yourself to others, but itโs important to recognise the value of the work youโve done during your traineeship. Be ready to talk clearly about your cases, your level of responsibility, and what youโve learned from them. If you can demonstrate practical experience, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude, that will come across strongly to interviewers.โ
