A leading UK law firm with a strong presence across Scotland and England is seeking an experienced Legal Director (12+ PQE) to join its Commercial Property / Real Estate practice in Edinburgh.

This senior role offers the opportunity to play a strategic leadership position within a highly regarded real estate team, advising major UK and international clients on complex, high-value, and cross-border transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of lawyers, setting standards for quality, performance, and client service
  • Manage and grow relationships with key institutional, private equity and high-net-worth clients
  • Advise on high-value sales and acquisitions of investment property across Scotland
  • Deliver asset management work including lettings, lease re-gears, variations, and portfolio management
  • Act on retail, commercial and mixed-use developments, including shopping centres and retail parks
  • Advise on the Scottish real estate aspects of corporate and share acquisitions
  • Act for lenders on complex real estate financings across multiple sectors
  • Lead and contribute to student accommodation and large-scale investment projects
  • Work collaboratively with corporate, banking, planning, and construction teams
  • Support UK-wide and pan-European transactions alongside English and US law firms
  • Drive business development initiatives and contribute to the strategic growth of the practice
  • Champion knowledge sharing, innovation, and efficient use of legal technology

The successful candidate will have extensive experience advising on Scottish commercial real estate matters, with a strong understanding of the legal and commercial drivers behind complex transactions. They will demonstrate sound commercial judgement and a pragmatic, solution-focused approach when advising clients. A proven ability to build, maintain and grow long-term client relationships is essential, alongside a clear track record of contributing to business development. The role requires a confident leader who enjoys mentoring and managing junior lawyers, fostering high performance and professional development. A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams within a professional services environment are also key.
