FWA is pleased to be exclusively partnering Whyte & Mackay for the recruitment of a Legal Counsel within its Glasgow based office. This is a rare opportunity to work in Scotland’s drink sector in a busy role offering an interesting variety and range of work. The Legal Counsel will report to the Legal Manager and will be responsible for assisting with all corporate governance and commercial legal needs of the business.

The key areas of the role will include the following –

  • Compliance
    – Provide advice, guidance and training with special regard to compliance matters within the regulations and controls which govern the manufacturing, marketing and sale of scotch whisky
    – Support the Legal Manager on implementing, maintaining and enhancing day-to-day compliance and governance within the business, particularly with regards GDPR/data privacy
  • Business Partnering & External Relationship Management
    – Provide guidance, lead and influence the business to ensure implementation of legal best practice
    – Provide legal support and general advice to all functions of the business including Brand Teams, Sales, Production, Finance and Logistics
    – Lead and manage external legal and business advisors to ensure access to specialist or expert advice and high level input to project teams
  • Documentation
    – Company secretarial business including managing company books, dealing with annual returns, web- filing and audit certificates
    – Negotiate, draft and review a variety of commercial contracts for key projects across the business including international distributorship, UK trading, supply, bottling, marketing services, consultancy and service agreements.

Candidates from NQ-3 years post qualified will be considered for this role and so it is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to make their first move in-house or alternatively move from an existing in-house role.

The quality and range of work is excellent and exciting but uniquely offers genuine work/life balance with the working hours being Monday to Thursday, 08:30am – 5pm & Friday, 08:30 – 13:30 (35 hours p/w).
