We have been exclusively instructed on a unique in-house opportunity with our client, a public sector organisation that is part of the UK higher education system. The organisations busy Legal Team is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join them in Glasgow.

The successful candidate will manage a range of complex legal and compliance matters, focusing primarily on commercial issues such as contracts, intellectual property, and procurement. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Head of Legal Services in providing expert legal advice to senior management, University bodies, and clients on a wide range of legal issues, including corporate, commercial, governance, compliance, and regulatory matters.
  • Support the University Compliance Officer with internal policies and procedures.
  • Offer legal input in committees and stakeholder groups, guiding consensus, negotiating terms, and promoting necessary changes.
  • Maintain a pro-active, dynamic, and positive approach to unfamiliar areas of legal work, adopting a problem-solving attitude to develop appropriate options and provide (and/or obtain) robust, accurate advice for relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance, motivation, mentorship, and support to junior members of the Legal Services team, including the Compliance Coordinator, as needed. The role may also involve management responsibilities in the future, where applicable.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 4 years’ PQE with extensive experience in commercial contracts, particularly procurement work. Individuals with significantly higher PQE will also be considered.
