We have been exclusively instructed by our client, a Scottish Public Inquiry, to recruit two experienced Assistant Solicitors to join its legal team. This is a unique opportunity to gain Public Inquiry experience on a 23-month fixed-term contract. The role is based in central Edinburgh, with office attendance required at least three days per week.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Gathering, reviewing and analysing evidence to support inquiry investigations and identify key lines of inquiry.
  • Supporting Counsel through legal research, evidence summaries, thematic reports and case preparation.
  • Managing witness and expert engagement, including statements, reports and stakeholder liaison.
  • Overseeing disclosure, redaction and compliance with inquiry procedures and GDPR requirements.
  • Drafting legal documents, notices and correspondence with participants, witnesses and representatives.
  • Preparing for and supporting hearings, providing legal assistance and post-hearing analysis.

Applicants should have at least five years’ PQE and hold a current Practising Certificate. A background in litigation or large-scale project work is required, with medical negligence experience preferred. Previous public inquiry experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
